Why the Warriors Will Win It All This Year...

This may sound crazy, but that was a common response when we predicted the Warriors to win the series against the Mavs two weeks ago... and just as that was actually a sensible choice if you've been watching basketball this year so is the possibility of the Warriors winning it all THIS YEAR. Read on, if you dare...

I know that Warriors Nation has hit what everyone believes to be an all-time high for our generation (which is def true at this point) so can we really expect that it can get any better? HELL YES. First of all, whether we play the Jazz or the Rockets, Game 1 of that series is on MONDAY. So, first off, both of those teams are beating the crap out of each other in that series (literally - see Juwan Howard's People's Elbow off the top rope on Okur in Game 6... and how Barkley can call that a non-technical foul is beyond me. That MAY have been okay in the Octagon, but on the NBA courts Juwan's lucky he didn't get booted for that alone, let alone his swipe at Dick Baveta. If that were Stephen Jackson he'd be serving a nickel in Folsom for that interaction).

Secondly, this gives either one of those teams 1 day for travel, preparation, healing from the severe beating they've delivered on each other, etc. 1 DAY!!! This is almost better news for the Warriors than winning Game 6. So while the Warriors are preparing for the next series, Nellie is scheming, the Mavericks have ceased sticking pins in some Warriors voodoo dolls' hamstrings (something had to explain that, right?) and the Warriors are all resting up, the Jazz and Rockets are absolutely killing each other and will get absolutely destroyed by the Warriors in at least game 1 and maybe Game 2 as well. The great thing for the Warriors is that neither one of those teams will be able to beat the Warriors at home (that series has gone by home crowd so far and, I'm sorry, but the only thing that 20,000 Mormons are going to beat 20,000 East Bay residents at is adding up the numbers of wives they have... then it would be a blow out the other way). And the fact that those first two games are on the road for the Warriors is actually a blessing because they could be playing the Jazz/Rockets on Mars with a bunch of martians pulling for one of those teams and using some crazy mind control tactics and the Warriors are winning Game 1 for the aforementioned reasons and quite possibly Game 2 as well. The Warriors could easily sweep this next series...

So, that leaves the Spurs or Suns. The Warriors best bet is to get out of this next series as quickly as possible and hope that the Suns and Spurs just beat the hell out of each other, take it to 7 games, and let those old bones (see Nash and Duncan) and recent injuries (Amare and Ginobli) take their toll. Even if that series doesn't go 7, the Warriors are going to have a shot because Nash's fatigue and nagging back has been an unmentioned, but consistent issue for him, Duncan has a lot of miles on his legs and by the Conference finals will be shooting free throws like... well, like Andris Biedrins... Not to mention that I don't know if I would put complete faith in Amare's post-microfracture knee after, what, 95 games this season? Both of those teams are going to be exhausted by the Conference Finals and the Warriors are designed to keep running at you. They are built for sensing weakness and attacking like a Great White Shark and, trust me, by the Western Conference finals BOTH of those teams are going to be bleeding just like the Mavs were and the Warriors are going to have another feeding frenzy. If any team in recent memory is designed to go from an 8 seed that barely made the playoffs to NBA Champions, it's this Golden State Warriors team... Besides, once they get out of the Western Conference Finals do they really need to play a team from the Eastern Conference to decide the Championship?

Props for knocking us out of the first round. That took a lot of heart and some seriously sick play. That being said, the Warriors have pretty much no shot at beating Utah or Houston in the second round.

Do you seriously think that the Warriors have the depth and the stamina to take Utah or Houston? 'Cos it's not going to happen. All credit in the world to you guys for beating Dallas, really. But you played your three stars for over forty minutes a game and that takes its toll. Now they're either exhausted (Richardson), long overdue for a meltdown (Jackson), or hurting (Davis). For all of Nellie's "scheming," his schemes have only gotten his teams out of the second round four times in the past three decades. If Nellie hasn't shown himself to be a good playoff coach in that time, I don't see him suddenly figuring it out now. And the Warriors can't stay this hot forever. No team can shoot 50% from beyond the arc for a month.

My prediction: Houston/Utah in 5. Y'all are a great feel-good story, and you're giving the bandwagoners plenty to cheer about, but you used up all your gas getting past the Mavs. I don't see Golden State having enough in the tank to do more than steal a game 3 win on the strength of the Oakland faithful.

what an idiot dburg, warrior fans have never been bandwagon, snoop and alba yes, the real warrior fans who have like 40 blogs on a team that hasnt made the playoffs in 13 years are so far from bandwagon unlike the people in dallas who just learned basketball existed years ago, get the fuck out of here guy.

I didn't call the author of this blog a bandwagoner, I didn't call all Warrior fans bandwagoners, and I didn't call you one, "anonymous." But you're kidding yourself if you think that the millions of True Warrior Fans who have suddenly come out of the woodwork were all suffering through losing season after losing season with you. They're just rooting for you because you're an 8-seed and therefore it's cool to do so. It happens to all the underdogs, be they George Mason or the Steelers. Don't jump down my throat because of it.

It's just a sports prediction, don't get so worked up dburg. We Bay Area basketball fans HAVE been suffering for too long. So what if some people jump on our bandwagon? It's a good story, enjoy it while it lasts.

plus the prediction of the Mavs series deserves some respect

go Warriors! we're proud of you no matter what!

I agree, go Warriors!

I also disagree, Jazz in six. And dburg? You've brought nothing to the table.

100% IR, I'll see your advantages and raise them. On Utah's side, they have their share.

First, the Biedrins/Boozer business. Against Yao, Boozer was actually using much of his quickness against Yao. Regarding Yao, Shaq called him the strongest player he's ever played against. Booz knew it would not be a question of strength but one of speed, and he exploited that advantage to the fullest. Playing opposite Biedrins, who is much faster, even than Boozer, Carlos has the clear bulk advantage. I expect Boozer to get to the rim at will, maintaining the flow of Utah's halfcourt game. It basically all comes down to how GS can bottle Boozer, and I just don't think they can.

But I'm not totally drinking the Utah kool aid, despite being a fan. Okur just might get totally lost in this series. He only averaged 11 points and 6 boards in the season matchups. Harrington will play an integral part in trying to expose his defensive shortcomings. Even though he did an admirable job against Yao, the GS dynamic is totally different.

The whole thing is a bit of a defensive nightmare. Against Houston, Utah could rest on their defensive laurels, making sure they bottled Yao, had Boozer show hard on every screen for T-Mac, and run out at the threes. There's not much to Houston's offense that will give a team headaches. Their's is a defensive mentality. However, the way GS is playing, they tire you out both physically and mentally. Every position has the capacity to make their own shot except Biedrins. They don't tire (sorry dburg) because they seemingly feed off their own perpetual energy. It's amazing to watch. Gosh, I'm slowly convincing myself they could win this thing. Almost.

Utah wins this series on the offensive end. The execution and flow has returned. They can get to the line as well as any team, and when they don't, their 2nd in the league shooting plays into their hands. This efficiency will keep the game in their style, while the deep bench (millsap, harpring, giricek, collins, possibly brewer) will keep the starters from tiring. Again, the X-factor may be Okur. If he can pick his spots and Williams can deftly deliver it to him, I'm confident in my pick. If he gets lost, than kudos to the Warriors because they are most likely in the conference finals. All starters need to get theirs if a team wants to match the Warriors.

Wow, I didn't mean to write that much. Should have just saved that to a post in my decrepit blog. Oh well, here's to debating all series long. One thing we can all agree on: Sir Charles is fat.

P.S. When I said "capacity to make their own shot" I meant "create their own shot"

I'm a little worried about the BAron Davis vs. Deron Williams matchup. In the regular season BD never really had an awesome game against Utah, and so much of the success against dallas was due to their inability to matchup with him defensively. If GSW does not have an overwhelming advantage at PG the rest of the team will really need ot step it up and it is a much riskier proposition to bank on JRich dominating Fisher consistently (not that he can't do it, but you have to feel less comfortable when he is your top mismatch as opposed to Davis.) Couple that with Boozer being on Fire and Kirilenko gaining some confidence and I think the Dubs will have quite a challenge. if Baron can abuse Deron Williams, JRich can exploit his matchup with DFish, and "Big" Al/Biedrins can do an adequate job on Utah's frontcourt all will go well.

I meant Philly's Best...

Also, what's going to happen to this blog once the Warriors are out of the playoffs?
